About Hotel Bjarkalundur
Hotel Bjarkalundur and its surroundings
Hotel Bjarkalundur is the oldest summer hotel in Iceland and has been operated since 1947. This family owned hotel is by many considered a landmark and has undoubtedly stood the test of time. The hotel is situated in one of the most magnificent spots in Iceland, at the footsteps of the amazing west fjords. Mount Vadalfjoll, famous for their majestic beauty, are also located near by straight north of the hotel. Their most prominent parts are two ancient, basaltic volcanic plugs which have withstood erosion better than their surroundings. It is safe to say that the hotel is surrounded by Icelandic nature in its most purest form and as such a very good place to visit.
For the past few years Hotel Bjarkalundur has undergone some major renovations to better accommodate its guests. The surroundings, the hotel itself, the restaurant, the lobby area, the open areas and the hotel rooms have all been renovated, in one way or another and in 2014 four additional rooms with private facilities were added. The total number of rooms at the hotel is now sixteen.
In addition to those 16 rooms Hotel Bjarkalundur also offers 6 summer cottages which are located few steps (approximately 20 meters) from the hotel. These cottages stand for both comfort and tranquility and have been wildly popular for the past five years.
